| Election Time
As I have traveled around the District, many
of our members get confused by the method that ITE conducts
elections. “I already voted, what is this new ballot?”
“What office are you running for?” “Why
vote anyway?” And I have heard many more.
The Section/Chapters, District and International
all will be asking you to complete ballots. Here is a brief
primer on the elections that you will be partaking between
April and June.
1. Section and Chapter Elections –
Each section and chapter elects its officers. Most of the
District 6 Sections and Chapters conduct their elections in
April and May. You will see ballots for local candidates and
issues that you will need to vote on.
2. District Election
– The District (representing the 13 western states)
conducts its election in May. You will be asked to vote for
Secretary-Treasurer, Vice President, President and the International
Director from District 6 to represent us in International
ITE affairs. There are 12 International Directors of which
District 6 has three that each serves a three year term; we
elect one each year. The Secretary-Treasurer position and
International Director are competitive elections. Here are
summaries prepared by each candidate:
3. International Election
– The International ITE conducts its election in June.
You will be asked to vote for Vice President and President.
Along with the Past President, these three positions form
the core of Executive Committee of International ITE. The
International Board of Direction consists of 17 members –
the 12 International Directors, the 3 Executive Committee
members (noted above), the Executive Director (Thomas Brahms)
and the Coordinating Council Chair (Wayne Tanda). The Vice
President position is a competitive election. For the first
time in memory, we have all District 6 members as candidates
for International office. Here are summaries by each candidate:
Historically our District 6 election has had
about 25% of the membership return their ballots. I know it
seems like a lot different ballots and elections – but
please take the time to talk to candidates when you get a
chance, review their positions and when each of the election
ballots arrive (Section/Chapter, District, International)
please return EACH of them. I would like
to see participation in our District 6 election increase to
50% of our membership.
Think about our profession when you vote. We
need leaders that will support and continue the strategic
framework we are outlining in our District 6 Plan –
Career Development, Student Initiatives, Technical Excellence,
Promoting Our Profession and Enhanced Networking/Social Relationships.
The slate of candidates you have before you represent individuals
with excellent backgrounds to carry ITE into the future.
Of those of you that vote, I am like many of
you (about 67%) that fill out my ballot the first week it
arrives. Please don’t set that ballot aside –
your vote does matter. Get the vote out!
