Summary:
Sound Transit is seeking two skilled field electronics technicians to support fare collections systems, and transit station and vehicle electronic transit systems. Sound Transit currently maintains a self-service, proof-of-payment fare collection system with automatic ticket vending machines (TVM) at each Sounder and Link Light Rail station; a variety of security camera systems and components; an electronic public address and variable message sign systems; and, various on-board vehicle systems.
The Transit Systems Electronics Technician will be performing various installations, planned and corrective maintenance tasks on equipment installed in King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties and will be driving extensively. Additional duties will be to test and repair modules and devices in the Sound Transit repair shop.
Examples of Essential Functions:
The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Provide Fare Collection and Transit Systems system maintenance support for all field and shop maintenance activities:
• Will test, trouble-shoot, calibrate, adjust, repair, overhaul and perform corrective and preventative maintenance on all IT Transit Systems Electronic and Electro-Mechanical devices.
• Equipment includes, but is not limited to Ticket Vending Machines, Ticket Operating Machines, Orca Card Readers, Coin and Bill Validators, Credit Card Readers, PIN Pads, Communications Interfaces, Microprocessors, complex electronic circuitry, Magnetic Ticket Readers, Data Processors, CCTV Camera’s and equipment, various IP-based field control units, Power Supplies, and as assigned work of a similar nature that may be required.
• All work will be performed with the aid of minimal supervision.
• Will design and fabricate fixtures, cables, etc. that will facilitate the testing and/or troubleshooting process.
• Perform the duties of lower classified personnel when requested to do so.
• Guide and assist lower classified personnel when necessary.
• Must have experience in logic systems, analog and digital circuitry and electro-mechanical devices.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP networks and theory, both Ethernet and serial communications.
• Maintain all records and forms, including entering data into maintenance databases in accordance with Sound Transit requirements.
• Will be responsible for various other duties as required.
Education and Experience
• High School diploma or GED required
• Graduation from an electronics vocational school, with coursework and associated lab classes in D/C, A/C, semiconductor devices, and electronic theory, or equivalent Associate’s Degree in a related field may be substituted for experience.
• Two years experience performing installation, maintenance and repair work of computer systems, logic systems, analog and digital circuitry or electro-mechanical devices required.
