This
award is to encourage and promote involvement by Sections in activities to support
the purpose and objectives of the Institute. It recognizes the overall quality
of Section activities that may be either technical or non-technical in nature.
It involves review of membership involvement in the section, finances, legislative
activities, technical activities, student activities and recognition of members.
Section Technical Reports are reviewed as part of this award. Prior to 1994, the
award was issued as the "Section Technical Award" which focused specifically
on technical reports prepared by Sections. In 1994 the award was combined into
the "Section Activity Award", recognizing overall section activity,
including technical reports. In 2004, the Board created two section activity
awards - one for those sections with membership at or above 300 members and one
for sections below 300 members (targeted to encourage activity at all levels).
Each winning section receives $200. The single best Western District
section activity report, as determined by the Technical Committee, is forwarded
as the Western District representative for a similar award from International ITE.
